How To Do The Maxi Skirt
Posted by annabreslaw , Jan, 2010 @ 12:30 pmLook, I’m not gonna lie, I follow the Olsen twins’ fashion exploits with some level of respect. They’re often ahead of the times (e.g. the homeless-chic look of 2004, the goth look of 2009) and when they go for it, they really commit. Like, really.

Last fall, the twins had an unexpected maxi skirt phase. They’ve deviated back to minis since, but the way they rocked those floor-length sheath skirts has stuck with me.
The maxi skirt was a brief flare-up as part of the Rachel Zoe celebrity styling takeover of 2005. Remember, she dressed Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton in long boho layers, piled on accessories and ginormous sunglasses? It was a notable enough trend to be addressed on various fashion blogs:

I’m not a Zoe girl now or then, and generally prefer the crisp/menswear look, but I picked up a grey jersey maxi skirt at a thrift store awhile ago and have paired it with simple tees and jackets like Ashley on lazy winter days. And now that Vogue’s just featured a long red maxi-dress-skirt-thing in a Three Ways To Wear It, I may be doing the maxi on weekends too.
